Prayer and the Worship Leader
Yes, prayer is an important part of every Christian’s
life. But today we are asking this
question: Are there specific prayers
that worship leaders should pray? The answer
is yes. Here is a list of prayer topics
for worship leaders to consider each week as they prepare to lead the worship
songs on Sunday:
Ask God to lead you to the songs that He wants His people to sing on
Sunday. I pray this pray each week
as I begin to select the worship songs for Sunday. God already knows the people that will
be worshipping together on Sunday at your church. He knows their needs and their desires
to worship Him. He knows what words
and melodies will touch their minds and drawn them closer to His plans for
their lives. After you pray this
prayer, trust that God will work through you in the song selection.
for the singers and instrumentalists that will be helping you lead the
worship songs on Sunday. Pray for
them individually by name. During
the week they are busy with work, family, school, and relationships. Their minds are probably not as focused
on the worship songs as your mind has been. Pray for their safety. Pray that they will come to rehearsal
ready to learn and prepare to lead in worship. Pray for their families. Pray that they will develop a lifestyle
of worship. Pray for unity among
the singers and the worship band members.
for the people that are gathering for worship in the auditorium. This is a prayer that I often ask the
praise team and worship band to pray with me as we prepare to begin the
time of worship. Some of the people
coming to the worship service come with heavy concerns and worries. Some may be sick. Some could be depressed. Others are joyful and happy. We want the worship music to point all
of them to God. Always remember
that you are leading people in worship.
You are not performing music for their entertainment.
for yourself. Ask God to help you
remember the words and melodies.
Ask God to help you lead with a sincere and clean mind. Ask God that you will be bold in your
leadership and that your mannerisms will be Spirit led. Leading worship songs is an awesome
privilege. God has chosen you to be
the leader of the worship songs.
Through prayer ask Him to guide you and enable you. He will answer your prayer.
One last reminder concerning prayer: DO NOT wait until Saturday night or Sunday
morning to lift these suggested prayers to God.
Pray during the week. Prayer should
be a natural part of the everyday life of a worship leader. God is waiting for you to spend time with Him
