Getting Ready for Resurrection Sunday

Easter Sunday is coming soon.  This year it lands on April 1.  Some people call the first day of April each year April Fool’s Day.  Please make no mistake this year and do not try to fool someone.  In 2018 Easter is on Sunday April 1.  Also please notice that in the title of this post I referred to Easter Sunday as Resurrection Sunday.  I like this!  The word resurrection immediately reminds us of why we will be celebrating on April 1.  Jesus lives!  He rose from the dead!  Hallelujah!

Resurrection Sunday is an awesome reminder of God’s power over sin.  But first we must follow Jesus to the cross where He died to pay the penalty for our sins.  We do this by planning special times of worship on Palm Sunday (March 25) and Good Friday (March 30).  We also prepare for Resurrection Sunday by finding and singing specific songs that remind us of Jesus’ death and resurrection.  One of my favorites is “Knowing You (All I once held dear)” by British song writer Graham Kendrick.  Here are the three verses and refrain:

All I once held dear, built my life upon
All this world reveres, and wars to own
All I once thought gain I have counted loss
Spent and worthless now, compared to this

Knowing you, Jesus
Knowing you, there is no greater thing
You're my all, you're the best
You're my joy, my righteousness
And I love you, Lord

Now my heart's desire is to know you more
To be found in you and known as yours
To possess by faith what I could not earn
All-surpassing gift of righteousness

Oh, to know the power of your risen life
And to know You in Your sufferings
To become like you in your death, my Lord
So with you to live and never die

Sing, think about, meditate upon, and study these words as you prepare for Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Resurrection Sunday.  These words are based upon Philippians 3:7-11.  Verse three of this contemporary hymn is my favorite.  Do not be fooled.  Get ready for The Resurrection!
